Admission, Acute and Intensive Care Ward

31.1.2017

Admission and Acute Care Ward has 52 beds of which 10 are for acute patients. Apart from the above named physicians and the head nurse another 12 nurses work here. Admission is done practically on a daily basis, admitting groups from Rijeka Psychiatric Clinic or Psychiatric Clinic in Split, individuals upon prior arrangement and emergencies. A team of psychologists, social workers and other therapists cooperate in the evaluation and administration of optimal therapy interventions.

Admission starts with screening, psychiatric assessment during the first day and a complete diagnostic treatment during the first hospitalized week. If required, telediagnostics is used as well, primarily in cooperation with Rebro Hospital in Zagreb. Further on, psychosocial evaluation is done, focusing on the possibility of social integration of a patient after hospitalization. The integrative approach involves the steering and integration of the patient in therapeutic activities (psychotherapeutic group, work/occupational therapy, socio-therapy group, recreational and other therapies). During the therapy the patient is directed to one of the rehabilitation wards for further treatment and rehabilitation. The ten acute beds proved to be insufficient for hospitalization of violent, aggressive and/or acutely psychotic patients. The acute part of the department focuses primarily on the reduction of risk of self injury or harming other people and on the reduction of violent psychopathology.
