The presentation was prepared by Dr. Đulijano Ljubičić and Dr. Ksanija Kessner, Head of the Acute Ward of the Department of Psychiatry at the St. Vinzenz Hospital, Haselünne. The paper reports on the findings of a year’s monitoring and comparison of changes in metabolism and weight of schizophrenic patients who take typical and atypical antipsychotics. The research, which was conducted independently of pharmaceutical companies, revealed that there are no long-term significant differences in the weight gain and changes in metabolism caused by older and more recent medications. A better tolerance of more recent pharmacs was established.
